Spring has finally arrived! Time to dust off the barbecue, bring out the garden furniture and dream of the long sunny days ahead.

Spring wines for May

Following the recent Wines of Portugal tasting, this months recommendations are both Portuguese and are both great fresh fruity wines, perfect for Spring drinking.

Nico 2007

A wonderful aromatic wine similar in style to the Pegoes Stella Blanco Dry Muscat. The big bonus with this wine though is that it's only 10% abv! Which is really quite good because it tastes so very good you won't be able to help yourself having a few glasses!

The Pegoes co-operative is really moving in the right direction in terms of producing wines that people love to drink. Fresh and approachable, everyone of their wines are spot on. Pegoes wines are very popular with Charles Metcalfe, the very well respected journalist and wine writer who is an expert on Portugal, so if Charles says you should be trying them, they must be good.

Please note that the label on the bottle shown, is not likely to be the one used. This label has fallen foul of labelling regulations and is currently being redesigned to make it legal.

Stella Rosado 2007

Pale pink, with an attractive aroma of fresh strawberries. Dry to off-dry, light to medium bodied, refreshing and bursting with summer fruits on the palate with a soft strawberry cream finish.

This is just another example of the modern Pegoes style. A perfect wine for a sunny Spring day!
